Chinese Daughter Mix
Up next for Tapes #136 is South London’s, vinyl only DJ, Chinese Daughter. Both on radio, on her own show on legendary Kool FM and at the rave, she showcases her favourite selections of original, new, and future Jungle records plus the sounds of bass-lead old school rave, future hardcore, and breaks that she finds in between.
Baby Rollén Mix
Joining us for Tapes #111 is London-based DJ and producer and found of the Slump Recordings, Baby Rollén. His ever expanding sound encompasses influences from jungle and breaks through to progressive house and tech house as well.
Violet Mix
Bringing in Tapes #86 is Violet. In her home city Lisbon, Violet is contributing to her local scene from different angles. She’s co-founder of online radio station Rádio Quântica and also resident at mina – a queer rave in unexpected venues. This work permeates Violet’s work as an artist, as she thoughtfully expresses the political history of dance music through her voice and her music.
Slacker Mix
Sam Black AKA Slacker is bringing in Tapes #80. Slacker has been winding up a potent strain of needlepoint techno which leans towards jungle and half-time D&B in its tempo and structure. Across a selection of various releases, Black’s sound has evolved into an accomplished and detailed style which draws on moody atmospheres and advanced engineering in the grand tradition of UK soundsystem music.
Amy Dabbs Mix
London-born now Berlin-based, Amy Dabbs is the daughter of an original Northern Soul DJ and is here to take over Tapes #69. 2022 is fast-becoming a breakthrough year for the multi-genre artist. This year alone Amy Dabbs has dropped releases on Lobster Theremin, launched her own label ‘Dabbs Traxx’ with a huge house EP and collaborated with fellow junglist Coco Bryce on a new project 'Slightly Involved'.
James Bangura Mix
Former military man and marching band member James Bangura is next up for #51 on our Tapes series. He’s an artist who has roamed the world and picked up musical influences at every stop on the way. Be it D&B in Alabama, blog house in California, or the rich house sound of New York, this Washington DC native is now distilling all those references into his own searing sounds. They have come on labels like Mister Saturday Night and can range from sauced out to brutally energetic. And the latter of those two is what defines his unrelenting mix for us. It is a hard-hitting collision of raw, decaying textures, pummeling drums, and stark, post-industrial atmospheres that are thrillingly harsh. The rhythms roam from the fringes of techno to the heart of jungle and on to icy but powerful minimalism that very much consumes your body. So strap in, cause this is one helluva ride.
Coco Bryce Mix
Stepping up for Tapes #44 is DJ, producer and label owner Coco Bryce. With well over two decades of experience, Coco Bryce can be regarded as a seasoned veteran in the world of uptempo dance music. After getting his first pair of decks back in 1995 he soon found himself regularly spinning Gabber and UK Breakbeat records at Hardcore events near his homebase in the south of the Netherlands. By the late '90s Coco had taken to producing as well.
Varda Hayes Mixx
Hailing from East London, DJ/Producer Varda Hayes is behind the newly launched, Vinyl Only imprint Intamissions. Kicking off the first 12” with a 4 track EP. Each track encapsulates the darker side of breaks, further merging elements of trance, acid and jungle.
