Kaishandao Mixx
Forged from the isolated, windswept hills of Wellington, New Zealand, melded by the breakneck BPM of modern China, Kaishandao (Mandarin for 'machete)' is Chengdu-based producer Kristen Ng, who creates a hard-hitting sound of complex origins and eccentric imperfections that chops a lost and found heritage into a playful mash-up of delirious dance music. We’re so excited to have her feature as #31 on our Tapes series, with this mix from a recent live show in Changsha - enjoy!
Maroki Mixx
Hailing from West Wales and now living in Amsterdam, Maroki joins us for our next installment of Origins Tapes #30. Having taken an 8-year hiatus from releasing and producing music while chasing a Michelin Star he has come back this year with a slew of releases. From his own Imprint 'Handy Records' along with a diverse 12" on the legendary 'E-Beamz' label. Following that is a 12" coming out on Shall Not Fade's 'Lost Palms' in Late August/September along with 2 more records via Lobster Theremin and an album towards the end of the year. His mix is a journey through some records he has collected over the past 15 years. Hard-hitting, trance obscurities and packed full of grooves. Enjoy!
Tia Cousins Mixx
The rise of online radio stations with their unrestricted musical policies has been a perfect blessing for Tia Cousins. She is a collector with a passion for in-between sounds, for experimental genres and niches both old and new. Frankly, she has a collection that belies her young years, but one that has won her plenty of recognition in underground circles, from NTS to Balamii, the Tate Gallery to Brilliant Corners. We’re so excited to have her feature as #29 on our Tapes series.
Manami Mixx
Bristol based, DJ, Producer, and Pianist Manami has been killing it playing on huge lineups for years, holding monthly residencies on Worldwide FM and Noods, and releasing a string of solid releases over the last year that suggest there are more records sure to be in the pipeline. At the end of 2020 Manami gave Origins the best end-of-year soundtrack when she took over our Selects playlist and it's the percussive, eclectic and driving taste in her music and sets that makes us so excited to welcome her for Origins Tapes #27.
Varda Hayes Mixx
Hailing from East London, DJ/Producer Varda Hayes is behind the newly launched, Vinyl Only imprint Intamissions. Kicking off the first 12” with a 4 track EP. Each track encapsulates the darker side of breaks, further merging elements of trance, acid and jungle.
Ground16 Mixx
Swiss Producer and DJ Ground16 is up next for #25 of our Tapes series. With releases on labels such as Juicy Traxxx, Gestalt Records and Neo Violence and DJ sets at Paloma Bar and HÖR Berlin, the DJ/Producer is fine-tuning his sound, finding inspiration in a wide range of musical genres such as techno, Detroit house, disco and jazz, as well as funk, lo-fi, hip hop, and electro.
Overland Mixx
Before relocating to Vancouver, Overland sharpened her skills in the snowy expanses of Alberta, Canada. A tireless DJ and promoter, she’s hosted a score of all-nighters and club events across the city, making her mark as an enthusiastic booster of a vibrant scene.
Michelle Manetti Mixx
DJ, vocalist, promoter & producer Michelle Manetti blossomed from being an underage clubber in the Late 90s UK Rave scene, into a well-loved and well-respected DJ and stalwart of East London's Queer scene. With over 17years of DJ-ing under her belt, it's safe to say she's no novice to the decks, with the passion, skill, panache, and record collection of a well-established and well-refined DJ.
Nikki Nair Mixx
Atlanta-based Producer and DJ Nikki Nair is up next for #22 of our Tapes series. In such a short time, he’s distinguished himself as a bold voice in the landscape of hybridized dance music and has released on Scuffed, Pretty Weird, Gobstopper, Banoffee Pies, Muy Muy Limited, TRAM Planet, and Dirtybird. Nair’s productions, in conjunction with his selection skills, establish him as a fresh, unconventional voice in dance music and we’re excited to be welcoming him for our Origins Tapes series.
Melle Brown Mixx
We welcome back Melle Brown, this time to the Origins Tapes Series. Melle is a London-based artist that rides the paths, floating between Neo-Soul, Jazz and House. Their biweekly show on Reprezent Radio has hosted the likes of Hadiya George & Melvo Baptiste and their releases on Jamz Supernova’s Future Bounce have gained industry-wide recognition. Melle is making much more than just background noise <3
Jeigo Mixx
Next up for Origins Tapes #19 is DJ & producer Jeigo, who creates standout euphoric, melodic cuts for the club and takes the same care of their DJ selection as every sonic choice within their own music. The future for Jeigo is incredibly bright and this mix is a wonderful example of their capabilities as a DJ and artist, and definitely an entity to watch for the foreseeable future.
Ian DPM Mixx
We welcome taste-maker Ian DPM for #18 of our Tapes series. 1/2 of the powerhouse label Scuffed Recordings, owner of Definite Party Material (the match to his namesake), part of the team at Lobster Theremin, and a talented producer and DJ. Ian DPM's mixes and music span from techno, electro, breaks, house, and beyond with a prominent sampling style that is always vibrant and full of energy.
Amaliah Mixx
Next up in our Origins Tapes series is one of London's brightest stars: DJ and Borne Fruits aficionado Amaliah is one of the scenes brightest talents and someone whose star is certainly on the rise. With electric sets of classic & freshly cut disco and house to ferocious rave and electro, it's crystal clear to us that Amaliah's connection to the music runs deep.
SHE Spells Doom Mixx
Next up in our Origins Tapes series is Zambian Artist Wamya Tembo, who rocketed onto the electronic scene with his musical moniker 'SHE Spells Doom' in 2014 and has been a mainstay ever since.
Priori Mixx
Based and born Quebec and currently based in Montréal , Priori represents the Canadian dance music scene worldwide through both their individual output and their label’s. They have also become known for their technical ability in the studio which has led to them mixing projects for fellow artists such as Roza Terenzi, Ex-terrestrial and Gene Tellem. Priori’s hypnotic soundscapes have meant that they have the ability to create worlds around their audience with both their live shows, live DJ sets, and online mixes and we are excited to be welcoming them for our Origins Tapes series.
Alexis Mixx
Next up in our Origins Tapes series is DJ and producer Alexis. Kicking off 2020 with her debut release ‘Refractions EP’ and following it up with ‘Who’s there’ in 2021 released on London label ‘Left, Right & Centre’: Alexis’ skills as a producer are gaining her attention in dance music circles world wide, sharing billings with the likes of Four Tet, Objekt and Batu.
