What has quarantine life been like for you these past few months?
I came back for the lockdown straight from the U.S, from a tour that didn’t happened because of the virus. So it took me few days to understand what was happening and how it was going to be in France. I only played in Denver in a place I was dreaming about so my last gig was the perfect one. Then thelockdown was intense, we were able to go out only for 1h / day so quarantine was pretty calm. Productive at the beginning, there were ups and downs. I was reconnecting with the other scenes i like than electronics, watching documentaries, cooking, talking with my friends around the world everyday.. It wasn’t different from my life “before” but in fact it was. When you are forced to stay inside, you have no break, no inspiration coming from outside so you have to dig really deep inside of you.

Where did the name Miley Serious come from? Dare I say it, Miley Cyrus?
Yes it was years ago.. one night i was joking with my friend, I had to get another alias to dj and this one came up, influenced by the witch house scene at this time ahah and thats it !

Can you give us a small insight into the underground Parisian scene, and how it compares to other cites such as London?
For sure it’s pretty different from others cities, we are totally not like London and we will never be like that, the energy is so different but i think there is a strong, tight scene in Paris. We know each others and really care about doing stuff together at some point; Rinse France for example is a real, in my expericence, and one of the most important family for the french scene, they are simply helping everybody in music here, close or not from the radio, and really help at building a scene or connection between people. So it’s really the vision that I have of us rn.

Your music is heavily influenced by the post-punk and industrial paradigm's, what is it about these concepts that resonates the most with your identity?
I wont say Industrial cause i’m not into Indus, im really more into some harsh noise stuff, which is totally different for me, but what i mainly kept from my years playing in bands is the energy that the punk scene gave me and teached me. In punk or hardcore it’s really about community, one of the most important thing for me in music, and so the tracks that i play even if its called techno need to bring this energy back, this part of the music that create a round up on the dancefloor.

The past 18 months has been a whirlwind for you, especially taking music as a full-time pathway, what has this been like for you?
I stopped with my regular job 4 years ago now, so i’ve been evolving in the scene every years more and more, becoming more independent to finally be able to live this life full time. It’s been something that came day by day, and became the real life, with its up and down but mainly a life that i’m proud of. People hate or don’t want to hear us (dj) to complain about this lifestyle, i won’t, but there is also an accumulation of tiredness and lack of time for the creative part that is hard to handle sometimes, plus personal life. But I loved this pace, i say loved cause we are all waiting to know what is going to happen next and how. But now i can’t wait to be back at it, with even more energy than before.

99CTS RCRDS has been going strong for 3 years now, how has this pandemic changed your outlook on operating a label and your relationship with the music/scene?
The lockdown was good for the label cause i was more focused on it, I had time to really work on it. So thats the positive point of this months being locked at home. At the beginning I had to sweeten the pill as everything stopped during my tour in US. We worked so much with my agents for this tour and you see all your works and happiness gone in a minute, so I had few weeks being down, I wanted to listen to all my tapes, cds or vinyls at home, reconnecting with my valuable items and favorite scenes. To be honest, I felt disconnected until recently.. but its coming back, I want to see and work more with the people I love, to be more supportive with the scenes I love, and to put my energy and my potential into things that important to me. I just see how I want to be more a“carftwoman” now than just someone running a label and djing. I want to learn more about tapes, confection ect..

What’s next for Miley Serious?
I hope to play asap ofc, but I’m super excited about what i’m going to put out on the label so : Label First, gigs when we can.. and to be here for the Rinse fam in Paris and Killkil in Berlin. Beyond excited to spoiler you that i will have on my label Ludgate Squatter (tape release) and Richie Beanz on CD.
